Seattle Music Corner
Featured Artist
Sera Cahoone
Her first stage performance came in a suburban Denver bar, where, at the tender age of 12, she played drums behind a bunch of bluesmen on open mic night. Unorthodox beginnings surely, but Cahoone has often plotted an unorthodox route on the way to Only As the Day Is Long, her quiet, country-noirish second album and Sub Pop debut, out March 18.
Sera recently played at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle press conference announcing the inaugural course.

Seattle City of Music
The Seattle City of Music initiative was created to celebrate and further enhance our renowned culture of music.
It’s easy to call Seattle the “City of Music.” Over the years, we’ve been home to world-changing performers like Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain, to name just a few. And we’re not just the
source of great artists; we’ve inspired trend-setting, worldwide musical movements—from indie pop to classical to grunge.
The music industry is at the heart and soul of Seattle’s culture, and makes a huge impact on daily lives. In 2008, music created 20,193 jobs in the region, with $2.2 billion in sales and $840 million in earnings, and generated $148 million in tax revenues in King County.
A group of music advisors to the City of Seattle decided to cement this effort, capitalize on our history, and envision a better future.
